Here's a conundrum. I'm not going to lie I download TV shows here and
there since cutting the cord.
I pay for hulu and netflix and JUST
yesterday installed an antenna in our attic.
I get the
complaining about downloading shows and "lost revenue" without
commercials BUT what if people started putting the shows up WITHOUT
pulling the commercials?
I'm actually of
the mind that I like commercials. I like the little break and something
to divert my attention for a minute. My GF likes them because it makes
the experience last longer. With them a show is 30 minutes but without
you blast through an ep in like 15.
Would these show makers feel so bad if people were leaving the commercials in? I honestly would prefer it.
I
only bring this up because some shows never show up on the stations web
site or very late in the game and honestly we are impatient.
Anyone else?

My letter to HGTV - Now with a response UPDATED
In today's age why don't regular channels go the HULU format and just start offering their online content for a meager fee with commercials (or free with more commercials!), I personallly like commercials.
I decided to write this letter to HGTV since its the ONE channel my GF can not live without since we've cut cable.
I have set up PLEX but its so temperamental and even thought about getting an Apple TV just so she could airplay from her ipad but we already have rokus and the HGTV app on the ipad is even more tempermental.
I (and many others I presume) would probably love to pay like 2$ a channel directly form the station itself, just to get what we like when we like and not have to pay cable companies insane prices. Let them deal with the broadband and leave the TV to the pros.
Here is my note, hopefully I get some kind of response.
"Dear HGTV (not actually sure how to forward this)
We recently disconnected our cable and decided to go ROKU. We are loving it and really see no reason to ever get cable again as the cost was just to much for use in this economy.
But my personal issues aside, the ONE channel my girlfriend (we own a home together) wishes we could still get is HGTV. I personally am not a massive fan but there are a few good things on there.
There was at once an HGTV app for the device albeit 3rd party but we missed that boat before it was removed.
My question is do you have any plans to unleash a ROKU app for your channel. All in all it would be a gold mine at even 2$ a month with commercials included (such as hulu does).
I cant see why most channels do not take advantage of this format such as Travel, Food, cartoon network ETC.
Just a curious question and hopefully something that might save me from a future aneurism from listening to why we dont have HGTV anymore.
Thanks "

I GOT A RESPONSE! Honestly it's a fair a decent one at that.
Hi Tyler,
Thank you for contacting us!
At this time, there are no immediate plans to offer a channel through Roku (though it is possible in the future). Scripps Networks Interactive is currently exploring multiple forms of digital distribution. A public announcement of a digital distribution contractual agreement with an MSO (Multiple System Operator), lifestyle website, or an over-the-top service provider has yet to be released. However, as this medium is an attractive and value based opportunity for both our consumer and company, please stay tuned for further details as we are investigating all three categories for opportunities!
Thank you again for your interest!
Best regards,

So honestly its not disqualified.... I guess.
I think personally the streaming boxes are just the initial future wave for television.
It would be great to FINALLY just have to purchase your internet through competing providers and receive your TV sub through ANY provider running a good promotion or just directly from the channel source.
Yet I believe we would DEF NEED some consumer protection by the government to be sure internet providers wouldn't start GOUGING the shit out of consumers since they would be losing the cable revenue.
In the end your network would remove the brunt from distributing cable TV to handle the load of your internet service so its a wash minus some new equipment but hey you should have honestly planned for this instead of buying new fancy gifts for yourselves so don't even think of upping costs.

Doritos Locos Tacos SUCK!
Doritos Locos tacos SUCK!
Me and my GF never eat junk food EVER but broke down to try these.
I was expecting that crunchy yet fluffy Doritos texture and taste in a shell form.... it was a bland cheap Taco Bell hard shell LIGHTLY coated in some seasoning you could barely even notice.
After all the hype, what a waste of possible calories!

Gooogle Paid TV - nothing good yet but it'll get there (fingers crossed)
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/09/youtube-launches-paid-subscription-channels
WHY cant we get straight al la carte programming cheap with adverts. I actually enjoy commercials and Hulu has that stuff down to an enjoyable science.
Me and the GF recently cut the cord but where I am tech savy enough to enjoy giving the big middle finger to comcast (yes I still pay them internet and they own part of HULU) she still has a bit of trouble managing the devices.
I would love to see google partner a deal with some real channels such as FOOD, HGTV, Cartoon Network, History, Discovery, ETC to get me some channels at like 2$ a month with commericals still in there to subsidize my discount.
C'mon google get to conquering the world already so I can get cheap TV.
I also had an idea for subsidized cell service using commercials as the waiting to pickup ring.

Municipal workers are the WORST kind of employee
My Evening
So I’m back from vaca in PR and went to finally get my
picture for my permit yesterday evening because just like any state or city run
facility hours for this are complete SHIT!
I drive from New Haven to Bridgeport at 4:30PM after work to
make it to the state trooper barracks for my permit. I make it there at about
4:45 and get in the line only to realize that my birth certificate is missing…..
I went back to my car and its NO WHERE! So I am one I.D. short of being able to
complete this.
I decide “fuck it no biggy” the probate courthouse is around
the corner I’ll just go get another copy it’s before 5PM and I have the 5 bucks.
I go to the courthouse, park and pay the meter and the door is locked, “is it
closed already???? It’s Thursday and they should have late hours”
I go around the building to the other door. Also Locked!
Then I see a nice big sign that’s says they closed the building and it move to
999 broad street. Okay I can see Broad Street but don’t know where 999 is since
NOTHING in Bridgeport ever has an address in front. I get back in my car,
pissed I paid a meter but hey.
I drive up and down
Broad ONLY to find that the fucking building is RIGHT BEHIND where I parked, so
Time wasted. I get out and RUN to the new courthouse since I have like 4
minutes. I get inside and ask the guard where it is and he says “sorry they
closed”.
“WHAT?”
“Yes they close at 4:30 every day now”
Not ONLY that but he informed me there was a slight increase
in the price for a birth certificate copy…. TO TWENTY FUCKING DOLLARS!

I’m a sexist prick! - Tomb Raider
After listening to all my friends and reading the phenomenal
reviews of the new Tomb Raider online I decided to break and got myself a copy
to play.
Now back in the original days I played the FUCK out of the
original on the PS1 and started the sequel but as soon as the game became more
about fighting than exploring I said “screw this stew” and never REALLY played
another.
But with the new graphics, redesigned story and never ending
peer pressure I decided to give it a shot.
I heard about the “rape”-like scenes and the brutal deaths
they impose on this poor girl…… and none of that phased me so I trucked on
until the first one I saw which was her getting crushed by some big rock…… you
know what I just didn’t give a crap. I found no matter how good the game was I
could not bring myself to be interested in it. I play it yes, but that’s
because I’m a cheap POS and I’m not looking a “gift horse” in the mouth, PLUS I’m
a sociopath obsessive compulsive…. Damn brain!
When my friend Fred asked me “Dude REALLY what did you
think, amazing right?” I said “meh”.
