Dark Souls 2 - To play with friends or not? My view, whats yours

Many people love to say this game is meant to be played "alone" which is untrue because is has a very intricate coop system.
They love to say its meant to be played with random people forced not to chat, which is also wrong because they added voice chat.
They say playing with friends makes the game to easy, well again I say you are wrong. In fact it makes you MORE careful and the game MORE difficult.
Let me explain.

Me and my ONLY buddy who also tolerates the souls games like to play together. This is not to make the game easy but to actually make it harder. We played Demons souls side by side and as much of Dark as we could. When playing with someone who is you're friend you are are taking extra careful steps even as a phantom because you dont want to screw your buddie's game up. You can occasionally say, oh let me go ahead and check but then again thats the same any phantom would do and honestly its an easy way to get you both killed. You fight harder and explore more because you are doing it together as a coordinated team. I HATE when I die and my buddy has to come back to get me alone, ripe for an invader or trap.

When you summon a random person in your game the FIRST thing they do is start indiscriminately attacking EVERYTHING and running for the boss. They want souls and thats it. They want those juicy boss rewards. They know the board already, they know exactly what weapons to use and what magic and more often than not (ESPECIALLY ON BOSSES) they loiter in the boards their characters are best suited for.

I was fighting the Old Iron King last night, who I was actually almost able to solo but decided to summon some guys cause they were there. Both literally DEVASTATED him with lighting bolts. I landed maybe 1 hit. Now I helped others mele him so I know its tougher but can be done, yet it felt REALLY easy and cheap having these two guys rail him.

With a friend you learn and build tactics side by side. We are both mele pyro so we would have to use our guys to the best of OUR abilities. This actually makes it much harder in the end because honestly we both HATE bringing a 3rd wheel in because again while we are nook and cranny'ing the level he/she is off killing.
Its irritating when you find a cool item casually while souls are being dumped in your bank and you have NO IDEA where they are coming from.

Also when you are helping your friend you dont feel so cheap when you find a cool item in his game and say "nice now i need to get that in mine" because you really found it together. You are not using your friends game for pre scouting you are trying to make him boss'able to then help you do it all the same.

This is just my opinion. I cant not see why they never added an invite feature. This does come from my other post about me and him now on the SECOND Dark Souls and once again having issues. We have played MULTIPLE coop games with ZERO issues (we just finished borderlands 2) but the Souls Games still just SUCK with their coop. Again I feel a tad cheated and we sit on the phone while we each play our own games like dickheads. Its just dumb. We summon someone else in and all the other one hears is "AW CMON WTF MAN" or "DUDE WHERE THE FK ARE YOU GOIN!"

Dark Souls 2 (ps3?)

This is NOT a review. After the abysmal time I had with Dark Souls 1 I'm overly hesitant to purchase 2. I LOVED Demons Souls and played through it about 30 times. Some how though Dark Souls failed miserably to catch the same spark.... some how? Oh NO never mind it was the HORRID online. I have a review of the game somewhere in this so Im not going to delve into its awful coop system, and glitchy/laggy PVP but all in all I have not lost faith this one could be good.

I read reviews and they are of course all good with praises abound but still this is what happened with one. Everyone talked about how great "the game" was and pushed it leaving out the fact the online was so broken. I feel these reviews are pulling the same shenanigans. I have not read ONE review where someone talks about the online yet. Are they hiding something?

Can ANYONE out there let me know if the online is better in this game because personally playing the game offline is a very droll experience. I liked jumping on with another person and having a good time, like sex. Okay by yourself, BETTER with another.

Are the timed summons an issue?
Are Invasions timed as well, cause I hate how an invader will just hide in enemies forever and run.
Is the summon time 5 or 30 minutes?
Will your summoned help actually be banished during a boss fight or can they stay for that? I would not want help or me helping to be banished during a boss fight to lose the souls I should have earned.
I've read enemies don't respawn after staying at a fire any more. Is this true?

So since the day after Christmas I have been dealing with OUYA support over a controller swap because the lag on my system is SO bad its near unusable. From a mere 7 feet away I have to get up every TEN MINUTES to stand next to my system so the controller can communicate with the device and stop lagging.

I have been repeatedly told by my assigned rep Chris Green I have ZERO ETA on a swap and they are out of stock and their shippers are behind.

Meanwhile my close friend Jamel has his controller on the way. He started his RMA process almost a WEEK after me.

His rep Jeff seems to be on the ball.

My system is hard wired, direct line of site, and laying on its side! All these steps reduce the lag but when you are in a game and your character starts wildly flailing about and disobeying your inputs then you know the hardware is just bad.

I could use my PS3 controller but then I have re sync with the ps3 every time I use that.
I have already purchased games and software for this otherwise it would be returned to target.

OUYA support is abysmal and the fact everything is done through email and there is no contact number is just horrid.

Many people bash this little box and with good reason but really for 99$ what the fuck do you want? This isn't 1983 anymore, 100$ is NOT a ton of cash.

Nexus 7 is probably the most comparable tablet to the OUYA (which I also have and LOOOOOVE)

so 250$ for the N7 give or take

100$ for an OUYA BUT you are not paying for a screen since you use your TV and also are getting probably a 20$ controller in there as well. so really you are making out on the deal.

Here's a stupid run down. Non scripted and poorly recorded. Do not expect anything more than if I'm your drunk questionable cousin who just bought an Ouya and is trying to pawn it off for weed money.

I have been going on an issue with customer service on my controller and AWFUL lag which does seem to be a known problem. I may have ended up with a first gen firmware controller so if this is the case they'll just ship me another one. Otherwise this bitch goes back to target and I just get another one.

Update: 1/3/14

STILL waiting for an RMA # from OUYA about this controller issue. REALLY debating on just bringing it back to Target for an exchange in the hopes that I will get working one this time.

They state they don't have the inventory to send a new controller..... WHAT!? How do you not have INVENTORY! OF mYOUR PRODUCT?!

Went to the site to check up on their thread about controller lag and it looks as if they have removed it...... That's a bit odd. Almost as if their trying to hide the fact from possible customers.

As a fan of the original Splatterhouse I played on my Turbo Graphix when I was like SEVEN (yes I had pretty open minded lazy parents), I could not wait to play the remake on my 360/PS3.

I remember playing all the sequels on my genesis but still I was never satiated  and when I heard of the remake I was ecstatic.

Now here is usually when my writing takes it reverse turn and I bash something..... BUT WAIT.

Why is it this country feels the need to give out legitimate tax payer dollars to others who are not legitimate tax payers. Sure illegals pay sales tax on items but for the most part they jump on social programs or undercut others for needed jobs.

In the end they cost this country more than its worth to educate them. What kills me is that they come here because they can not  get their own countries in order. Why not fix your own country instead of coming here and making us... YOU!

Boo hoo. I just bought Bioshock Inf and Borderlands 2 new because they were on sale for dirt cheap, and to buy used was only a 3$ savings. Only reason I bought new.

I Also traded in 3 POS games I paid WAY to much for (Sorcery ANYONE! Dead Island Riptide.... bleck). 40$ for sorcery new and 55$ for riptide new! Wasted on two unenjoyable POS games with way to much promotion.

Sorry but I only buy used or way past release to save the money. Its not our job as consumers to support you its our job to get the best bang for our buck. YOU want our business then start making buying new more appealing. Dont strip things from used sales like online passes because that makes the majority mad.

You think you dont make enough from your publishers and management then you deal with it. Make a union group for all devs if you feel so strongly but stop blaming the consumer and used game market for your own short falls and mismanagement.

Make the games cheaper on release and then you will get those first bang sales before used even becomes an issue.

Im not spending 60$ anymore on something that I may hate (Dark Souls, but loved demons souls) just to NOT have a return policy and be stuck with it. PS yes used games also entitles you to a return policy.

Learn something there, no return policy just tells me you have NO FAITH in your product and cant risk the return.

Dead Island Riptide = WASTE OF MONEY!

Bought DI-R with a buddy and let me say it's just mo tha same.

This SHOULD NOT have been a 50-60 dollar game. At most it should have been a 20$ expansion.

The game is EXTREMELY short and there is nothing new. Yes they added boats but they SUCK.

Let's do the preverbial good to bad

Well if you liked the first and got this for free then hey have at it.

The online is still good/same but I did not experience the freeze ups the first was riddled with.

BAD

Importing your character from the first is useless. It Only imports your levels and skills, but NO WEAPONS. So in effect what this does is pit you against level 40+ zombies with level 2 weapons! Importing is basically hard mode. You will die and die A LOT from importing. I imported and my friend did not. My zombies where invincible meth heads compared to his. Unfortunately before I figured this out I was pretty far and not interested in re starting.

Endless zombies.... Who ever thought this was a good idea was sniffing something. You literally can watch and endless flow of zombies flood out of certain houses. WHERE are they all hiding? Is it a clown house?

Same enemies. No really its just the same enemies with like TWO new ones.

The boats suck. They are hard to control, not needed and annoying. Not to mention you are steering through drowner infested water. As passenger you can not attack oncoming zombies and will find yourself pulled into the water more often than not while your driver doesn't even realize and keeps going.

IT THE SAME GAME! Nothing new, in fact most of the areas in the first were more fun.

SHORT SHORT SHORT SHORT SHORT! There had better be some free DLC for pre order people because this was not a game, it was an EXPANSION! We literally finished the entire game with all sides in like 10 or less hours. There is no need to do NG+. Funny this game has NG+ but dishonored didn't. I know its not the same devs but what does the industry as a whole think now a days.

Fighting is still clunky. This wasn't bad because in the first you were leveling with the enemies and could always just hop on a car and smash their heads with an axe in relative safety but in this, again if you import, you are fighting super strong enemies with a nerf bat.

The story is pretty lame compared to the first. It jumps all over the place with no real progression on any particular point. Characters are met and then dispatches with or not seen until the end with little or no reason to their even being there.

WHY DOES EVERYONE in the damn group have to talk to me every time I walk by?! They all repeat the same phrase ad nauseum until I am swinging my club at their head HOPING to put them out of whatever dementia loop they are caught in. "Canned food is all we have here"

Just make a strong poison Kitana and there you have the only weapon needed throughout the game.

Final boss sucked. They should have really had some cool bosses. They introduced mutagen yet did not really take advantage of it with any novel boss fights.

Sam B is still more racially annoying than anything Ive ever seen, and I'm a pretty insensitive guy. I think it would have been cool to get like DMX for this role and used his voice. Not that Phil Lamar is bad but I just found the character SSOOOOOO annoying.

Lastly (but not last) how the FUCK do I rid myself of this?!

The supposed setting is off on my and my buddy's system yet it persists in forcing fucking facebook down our throats!


In the end there is so much fundamentally wrong with this game as a "game" and not an addon to the first I could only see myself giving this 3 out of a 10 brand new full price.
If you can grab a copy for 15 to 20 bucks it would jump itself to maybe a 7 out of 10.\

I’m a sexist prick! - Tomb Raider

After listening to all my friends and reading the phenomenal reviews of the new Tomb Raider online I decided to break and got myself a copy to play.

Now back in the original days I played the FUCK out of the original on the PS1 and started the sequel but as soon as the game became more about fighting than exploring I said “screw this stew” and never REALLY played another.

But with the new graphics, redesigned story and never ending peer pressure I decided to give it a shot.

I heard about the “rape”-like scenes and the brutal deaths they impose on this poor girl…… and none of that phased me so I trucked on until the first one I saw which was her getting crushed by some big rock…… you know what I just didn’t give a crap. I found no matter how good the game was I could not bring myself to be interested in it. I play it yes, but that’s because I’m a cheap POS and I’m not looking a “gift horse” in the mouth, PLUS I’m a sociopath obsessive compulsive…. Damn brain!

When my friend Fred asked me “Dude REALLY what did you think, amazing right?” I said “meh”.

Dead Space 3 Trailer

Let me say I am super excited as having beaten the first 2 and with coop I think this game can be fantastic.

Ive only have one grip with the series. The metamorphosis of Issac Clark from everyman to a super stud action star.

Not just in mentality but looks.

This is Isaac in the ending of Dead Space 1 and the only time you see his face. Aside that you rarely hear his voice. The fact then when his helmet came off and he looked more like chubby faced balding dude just trying to make ends meet. It made him relate-able, root-able and actually even a bit more heroic.

This is Isaac now apparently after lipo, a massive hair transplant and apparently an eye shade change (didn't even know that was possible). Let me say comparatively to the first you couldn't get his dumb ass to shut the fuck up in the second one either.

Honestly wish they kept him the same way as the first cause I can only imagine he will look like THIS in 3

Darksiders 2 - Review 360

Let me start by saying a bit about Darksiders 1. It took me a year to finish. Not because it was bad but because it just wasn’t what I wanted at the moment. I played to about the second boss and then said “fuck it”. I don’t prefer fetching, and I can’t stand walking 3 feet and having invisible walls come up until I beat the next onslaught of enemies. I like the option to piss myself, bitch out and run.

Well after a year I had nothing to play and put it back in. I forced myself to push on and was so happy I did. After the second boss the story started to truly pick up and let me say the mythology this game built was quite good. War as a character who just started out as your revenge driven Kratos rip actually turned into being something Noble and powerful. Willing to wheel and deal to get what he needed and deep down you can see there is a spark for something great to be brought out. People may say he is just a hulking armored hack and slash mass but in reality there is a lot there to work with and personality to still be revealed.  

People compared the gameplay to a Zelda clone but honestly I just didn’t feel that way. Just because a game has a form of a hook shot and dungeons doesn’t mean it’s copying Zelda.

I was super excited at the end of Darksiders when they showed the other horsemen spiraling to earth to help their brother and drooled for a sequel.

Now for part 2.  (May contain spoilers but I’ll try)

The Kill - Video Game Idea

I would love to see an assassination game where like 30 people are lumped into a room under the guise of roles, like guards, targets and assassins.

You don't know whos AI or whos the real assassin and its everyone's job to figure it out and stop them before they kill their target, who could also be AI or human.

I think it could be fun questioning guests until you possibly find the real human target. 

The assassin could have special abilities like jumping and climbing where the guards have numbers.

There could be mysteries in the kill ass well like decoys, and protective measures. Each catagory could be privy to certain info given to them at the beginning of the game which could be used to help question, disqualify and help coordinate plans, given who you could trust.

Anyone have other ideas to add?

I remember back in the days of the super Nintendo all the way up to the PS2 we'd have some quality fucking games. Now I’m not talking about quality in the way of quality story and content but I mean “quality” as in they JUST FUCKING WORKED!

Two games I recently (within a year is recent for me) purchased to play online with a couple of buddies (I don’t buy a lot of games) and neither work.

DMC Reboot - Hangover Trailer

I am probably one of the FOUR people who are actually excited for this DMC Reboot. I was never actually a fan of the originals and found them cliche' and very repetitive. I mean mindless hack and slash is a good time but if there is no real filler story in between then it just gets boring. This is probably how God Of War survived so many games. You MASH "X" but then get treated to some very emotionally driven dialogue and story. This new game's plot seems like a mix of the old Roddy Piper movie "They Live" mixed with Silent Hill. Premise is a race of demons are subliminally controlling the human race through politics and advertising and only a few select people in a particular group, branded as terrorists can actually see their true face. Check out the trailer above and honestly tell me this Dante doesn't seem a bit more interesting.

This review is for FPse for android a pretty nifty PSx emulator.

 So far I have only tested this with Diablo 1 and one of my personal all time favorite games, Soul Reaver Legacy of Kain. Aside some stuttering in Soul Reaver with the audio, which I'm sure could be trouble shot out, the games both functioned fantastically.
I will say I hate capacitive buttons for game playing and on my smaller nexus s it was a bit tough to use the R2/L2 buttons but was still loads of fun. Coupled with one of the blue tooth controller add on apps this could bring you endless fun in reminiscing with some old favorites.
There are of course some legalities as you "can only" use back ups of games you own and tha...... fuck that everyone knows you no longer own these games but for the few times you will pick them up and play does it really matter. I mean I did own soul reaver, fuck I completed it like 12 times so doesn't that count for something?

Anyway the app costs about 5$ but is very well done. I personally found a file shared APK to test it for a day or two then plopped the money down for the dev because let's be fucking serious the 15 minute return policy doesn't give you much time to figure the app out and decide if games work. There are certain apps that need to have a bit of a better return policy but again android APK's litter the internet so find one test it and if its good then do good by the dev.
I am now putting the app on my rooted Kindle Fire and going to use it with a 360 controller to play through some older favs of mine.

There are also Wikis and threads all over telling you the compatible games and settings that work best for them. You will also need to find the PS1 Bios file to run the games but that should take you all of 10 minute ago to get.
